What Your Baby is Doing This Week
Congratulations! You made it to the halfway mark of your pregnancy. Your baby has come a very long way from those first dividing cells and now weighs about 11 ounces (312 grams) and measures about 6.3 inches (16 cm). The baby is taking up more and more room in the uterus and will be beginning to put more pressure on your lungs, stomach, bladder, and kidneys. Under the vernix caseosa (a protective, waxy coating), your baby's skin is thickening and developing layers. Hair and nail growth continue during this time.
What Your Body is Doing This Week
If you haven't already had one, this will be the week most practitioners will schedule your ultrasound. The ultrasound can do a lot. You can determine the size and position of your fetus, see the internal organs and usually see the sex of your baby.
