What Your Baby is Doing This Week
This week your baby's brain and nervous system are developing and growing at a faster than ever rate. The optic vesicles, which later form the eyes, begin to develop this week on the sides of the head, as do the passageways that will make up the inner ear.
Sometime this week, your baby's heart will begin to beat and in many cases can even be detected on an ultrasound. Your baby has the beginnings of digestive and respiratory systems developing this week and if you could see your baby right now, you would see little buds popping out on each side. The top buds will be your baby's arms and the bottom buds will be your baby's legs.
Your baby is still very tiny. If your baby is average size, she will measure about 0.08 to 0.2 inches (2 to 5 millimeters) from head to rump!
What Your Body is Doing This Week
Most of the common pregnancy symptoms will be in full effect this week. Despite the name "morning sickness" it can occur at any and all times of the day and into the night. Aching breasts are also usually in full effect this week. Wearing a tighter bra may minimize the discomfort instead of letting the girls be free. See which way gives you more relief. Another common complaint you may experience this week may be more frequent visits to the bathroom. Along with hormonal changes and elevations, factors such as your kidneys working hard to flush extra wastes from your body will cause you to urinate more frequently.
