What Your Baby is Doing This Week

Your baby is growing by leaps and bounds this week. The "tail" that appeared at the base of your baby's spinal cord should be nearly completely gone. Also, your baby's head will be appearing larger than her body. Your baby should be around 0.6 to 0.7 inches (16 to 18 millimeters) from crown to rump and weigh in at around 0.1 ounces (3 grams). The face of your baby has continued to develop and the tip of baby's cute little nose should be here and flaps of skin that will become eyelids have started forming over the eyes.

The digestive system continues to grow and develop. The anus is now forming and baby's intestines are continuing to grow. Reproductive organs such as the ovaries and testes start to form during this week.

Although you won't be able to feet those first little kicks, your baby will start to move around more. While easily visible on an ultrasound, you'll have to wait several more weeks for your turn to feel those first kicks.

What Your Body is Doing This Week

Before your first prenatal visit, take some time to prepare a brief family medical history. Jot down any chronic illnesses you or your partner have had. If you know of any genetic disorders that run on either side of your families. Make of note of any concerns you have and discuss them, no matter how trivial your concern may seem, your practitioner has probably heard it before.
